What this tool does
You list pages and ranges of pages of one PDF file. The tool copies these pages into one new PDF, or into one PDF for each range, or into one PDF for each page. Pages are copied as they are: text stays text, and pictures are not compressed again. The original file is not changed.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF file, or drop it on the marked area. The list shows its number of pages, and the page field is filled with the whole document.
- Enter the pages you want.
- Choose the output: one PDF, one for each range, or one for each page.
- Start, then download the result. Several files can be downloaded one by one or as one ZIP archive.
How to write pages and ranges

Pages are counted from 1, as a PDF reader shows them in its page field. Parts are separated by commas or spaces. The pages appear in the order in which you list them, and a page may be listed more than once.
An entry that cannot be used is reported with the part that is wrong, for example a page beyond the last page or a range whose first page is larger than its last. Your entry stays in the field so that you can correct it.
Worked example
A bank statement has 12 pages. Pages 1 to 3 belong to January, pages 4 to 7 to February and pages 8 to 12 to March. You need one file for each month.
Enter 1-3, 4-7, 8- and choose one PDF for each listed range. The result is three files with 3, 4 and 5 pages. Their names end in pages-1-3, pages-4-7 and pages-8-12.
To get only February and a copy of the first page as a cover, enter 1, 4-7 and choose one PDF with all listed pages. The result has 5 pages.
Common mistakes
- Using the page numbers printed on the pages. A document whose printed numbering starts after the cover or uses Roman numerals has other numbers than its position in the file. The tool counts positions.
- Expecting a much smaller file. Fonts and other content that several pages share are kept in every result that needs them, so a file with half of the pages can have more than half of the size.
- Splitting a protected file. It is refused. Save a copy without protection first.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to extract pages?
- No. pdf-lib copies the pages in a background worker of your browser, on your device, and the original file is not changed. The new files exist only in this tab until you download them. When advertising is enabled and permitted, the page also loads third-party advertising scripts; the privacy policy explains this.
- How do I remove pages from a PDF?
- List the pages you want to keep. To remove page 4 of a document with 10 pages, enter 1-3, 5- and choose one PDF with all listed pages.
- How do I change the order of pages?
- List the pages in the new order, for example 3, 1, 2, and choose one PDF with all listed pages.
- How many files can one run create?
- Up to 500. If the output would be more files than that, the tool says so and you can use fewer ranges or choose one PDF.
- Are bookmarks and links kept?
- Bookmarks are not copied. Links on a page may no longer work in the result, for example when they lead to a page that was left out.
