Which tool for which task
- Several documents, or documents and photos, should become one file, for example for an application: merge.
- The pages are in the wrong order, such as a scan with the back pages first: organize pages.
- A document needs page numbers, for example after merging: add page numbers.
- Only some pages are needed, or a long file should become several short ones: extract pages.
- Photos or scans should be sent as one document: JPG to PDF.
- A page should become a picture, for example for a slide or a post: PDF to JPG.
- Scanned pages are sideways or upside down: rotate PDF.
- Blank, duplicate or private pages should go: remove pages.
Pages are copied, not redrawn
Merging and extracting copy whole pages from one file to another. Text stays text that can be selected and searched, and pictures keep their quality, because nothing is drawn again or compressed again. Rotating and reordering keep the whole document and change only the rotation or the order of its pages.
Only pages are copied. Features that belong to the document as a whole, such as bookmarks, and fillable form fields may be missing in the result. Open the result and check it before you delete an original.
PDF to JPG is the exception: it draws each page as a picture, so the text in the pictures can no longer be selected.
Sizes in a PDF
PDF measures in points. 72 points are one inch, so one point is about 0.353 mm. An A4 page of 210 × 297 mm is about 595 × 842 points; a US Letter page of 8.5 × 11 inches is 612 × 792 points.

Limits
A PDF file may have up to 100 MB. All files of one job together may have up to 200 MB and 2,000 pages. A PDF made from images may have up to 500 pages. The whole document is held in the memory of the browser while it is processed, and the limits keep that within what a browser tab can handle.
Password-protected files cannot be read. Remove the protection with the program that created the file, or with a PDF reader that offers it, before you use the tools.
Frequently asked questions
- Do the tools change the quality of my PDF?
- Merging and extracting copy the pages as they are, so text and pictures keep their quality. JPG to PDF copies JPG pictures unchanged with its preselected Original quality, or stores them as new JPGs with the quality you choose.
- Why is my password-protected PDF refused?
- The content of a protected file is encrypted, and the tools cannot decrypt it. Save a copy without protection first, using the password in a program that can open the file.
- Are bookmarks and form fields kept?
- Not reliably. The tools copy pages. Bookmarks are not copied, and fillable form fields may stop working in the result.
- Can I make a PDF smaller with these tools?
- Only by leaving pages out. The tools do not compress the content of existing PDF files again.
- Can I select text in a PDF made from images?
- No. Such a PDF contains pictures of the pages. The tools do not recognise text in pictures.
